2024 Compensation Changes for Employment Claims Explained

As of 6 April 2024, the compensation awards for various employment-related claims increased. Most notably, the awards for unfair dismissal, redundancy payments and claims that include injury to feelings.

Unfair dismissal

The maximum award for an unfair dismissal claim has increased from £105,707 to £115,115.

Redundancy payments

The maximum amount of “a week’s pay” for the purposes of calculating a statutory redundancy payment or for various awards including the basic or additional award of compensation for unfair dismissal has increased from £643 to £700.

Tribunal compensation

There have been further increases to levels of compensation payable regarding the ‘Vento Bands’ for injury to feelings compensation in discrimination claims, the new bands are:

  • A lower band of £1,200 to £11,700 (less serious cases)
  • A middle band of £11,700 to £35,200 (cases that do not reach an award in the upper band); and
  • An upper band of £35,200 to £58,700 (the most serious cases).
