Graduate / Trainee Programme

Enthusiastic, talented and at the start of your legal career? We have an excellent track record for career progression within our firm. Many of our assistants and paralegals have transitioned to a training contract or qualifying work experience. Others have successfully followed the CILEX or CLC route.

Your training, whether through a training contract, qualifying work experience, CILEx or CLC, will develop your knowledge and expertise with hands-on experience by supporting our partners and lawyers with their cases. In addition, we hold regular in house training days for all our trainees and newly qualified lawyers.

As a current trainee at Howell Jones I can happily say my experience so far has been a great one. There is a good sense of community and support throughout the firm and that continues between the trainees. Each team I have worked with are supportive and the fee earners are happy to take time out of their schedules to focus on your training. There are also ‘check-ins’ with your department manager and training manager every three months to ensure everyone is happy with the progress made.

Nathan Chalmers, Trainee Solicitor

I started working at Howell Jones Solicitors in 2021 in the private client practice department and since then the firm has supported me in my journey to progressing as a Trainee Solicitor. Howell Jones is a great place to work as they promote diversity and inclusion which showcases a broader range of talent and different experiences amongst employees. As a Trainee Solicitor, I have been intellectually stimulated by conducting legal tasks on files and received clear feedback. Overall, the firm is a positive place to work with a progressive company culture.

Hasnain Arshad, Trainee Solicitor

I am currently more than halfway through my training contract with Howell Jones and my experience has far surpassed my expectations. I have had the pleasure of attending numerous court hearings and supervisors have allowed me to contribute to complex and interesting matters. I have been given the opportunity to contribute not just in my team, but to the firm as a whole. I have been a part of the firm’s Social and Fundraising Committee since I joined and have taken the responsibility to organise our annual charity coffee morning. I have also had the privilege of external visits to schools to talk to students of various ages and backgrounds about a career in law. Howell Jones really make you feel valued as a Trainee and that you can provide a big contribution to the firm.

Daniel Hart, Trainee Solicitor

As a trainee solicitor who transferred my training contract from another firm, I couldn’t be happier with my decision to join Howell Jones. From day one, the team made me feel like I’d been here from the start of my training contract. The warm, family-like atmosphere is truly special.

The quality of work has been exceptional, and I’ve been lucky to be involved in cases that have both challenged and developed my legal skills. I feel supported by the partners and senior members of staff who are always ready to answer questions and offer guidance.

What sets Howell Jones apart which I am impressed about is the firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. As someone who changed careers to enter law, I’ve felt my previous experience valued and utilised.

Nedra Daniel, Trainee Solicitor

In 2021, I joined Howell Jones as a conveyancing assistant. This gave me the opportunity to demonstrate my abilities and later apply for a training contract. In my training contract I have been able to develop my knowledge of conveyancing and learn many new legal skills in my private client and litigation seats. I have worked on interesting matters in many different areas of law, improved my legal skills and for example recently, I conducted research in a highly complex area of law to contribute to the court hearing’s progression. Throughout my experience working with different teams and across all Howell Jones offices, I’ve found everyone to be supportive and always happy to help.
